Pebble welcomes holiday snow
INKOM -- The Pebble Creek Ski Area enjoyed the best snow over the holiday season it's had in years, officials say. On Wednesday, it had 49 inches at the top of the mountain and 10 at the lodge.

That's good news for skiers and the area's employees, who were worried just a few weeks ago about the lack of snow. But following a series of strong storms, that quickly changed and Pebble Creek opened for the season on Dec. 20.

"It always snows. It's just a matter of when," said Pebble Creek Manager Mary Reichman. "We were really happy we got the snow before Christmas this year."
For those who have never skied or snowboarded, Pebble Creek will start its one-day introductory lessons this weekend. The lessons, which will continue through the season, are held Saturday and Sunday. They start at 10 a.m. and last a couple of hours, but participants should check in by 9:15 a.m. The cost is $32, which includes all day lift tickets and rental equipment. Those with equipment can take lessons for $25.

Reichman said that even with the warmer temperatures earlier this week, the snow is holding up well.
"It's just making it a firmer base," Reichman said.
