Hill named player of the year
Taysom Hill won his first, of what will surely turn into several, postseason football award on Thursday.
The senior Highland quarterback, who led the Rams to a 5A state championship by throwing for more than 2,000 yards and rushing for almost 1,500 yards this past season, was named Gatorade Idaho Football Player of the Year. He also played safety, kicker and punter for Highland. Idaho Falls coach Chuck Johnson said there was no one more deserving of the award.
"In my 25 years of coaching high school football in the state of Idaho, Taysom Hill is the best I've seen," he said in a release. "Not only the best quarterback, but the finest athlete." He is the fourth Highland athlete to earn the distinction.
With the honor, Hill is now eligible to be named Gatorade National Player of the Year. State and national Gatorade awards recognize both athletic and academic success. Hill currently holds a 4.2 GPA. Byron Hout, of Lake City, won the award last year.
