Live music, theater set
Local residents will have ample opportunity to enjoy theater and live music this weekend.
If you are a fan of comedian/ventriloquist Jeff Dunham, tickets for his April 23 show at the Holt Arena go on sale at 8 p.m. this morning. An incorrect date for the show was recently listed in an ad. Tickets are $42.50 and can be purchased online at www.isu.edu/tickets or by calling 282-FANS. Dunham is known for his puppets Achmed the Dead Terrorist, Walter the Grumpy Retiree and many others, and his "Very Special Christmas Special" debuted on Comedy Central on Nov. 16. As far as theater goes, Shakespeare's "Love's Labour's Lost" will be performed Friday and Saturday night in the Beverly Bistline Theater in the Stephens Performing Art Center. The show will begin at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $14 for adults, $12 for faculty/staff and alumni of ISU, $5 for students with ID, $8 for people under age 18 and $12 for senior citizens. "The Forgotten Carols" will be presented tonight at the Marsh Valley High School Performing Arts Center in Arimo at 7 p.m. There will be a pre-show at 6:30 p.m. and open seating will be available beginning at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are available at Aslett's Cleaning Center and Rug Rat Flooring in Pocatello, Marsh Valley businesses and Shawn's Market in Lava Hot Springs. For more information, call Luana at 775-3607. The show is being presented by the McCammon and Arimo Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints stakes.
The Old Town Actors Studio will present improvisational shows tonight and Saturday night at 427 N. Main St., Suite G in Pocatello starting at 8 p.m. A small cast will act out skits suggested by the audience. To make reservations or for more information, call 478-6886. How about live music? The Idaho State University Jazz Bands will present an evening of jazz tonight at the Jensen Grand Concert Hall, Stephens Performing Arts Center, at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free to ISU students with Bengal card, $6 general admission, $4 for faculty and staff and $2 for pre-college. Also at ISU, students of piano player Mark Neiwirth will present a recital on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Goranson Hall at Idaho State University. Admission is free. Goranson Hall is located on the bottom level of the Fine Arts Building. There will be a showcase of local bands on Saturday at the Icon, 1235 Main St., in Pocatello at 7 p.m. Bands set to perform are Audrey Rose, Run Elisa Run and others. Tickets are $10 in advance and can be purchased online at www.myspace.com/iconlive or at Budget Tapes and Records in Pocatello.
For more local music you can checkout the Sunday night show at Benton Street Bar and Grill, 415 S. 2nd Ave., in Pocatello. Bands performing are Salami Rocket, Ixxion, The Reptillians and A Surface Soiled. The show starts at 6 p.m. and admission is $5. If you want to get a bit of a head start on Christmas, go check out the sixth annual American Falls Festival of Trees at the Power County Fairgrounds this weekend. Santa will be there, and there will be a Little Princess Tea, live entertainment, food, a tree and wreath auction and raffle. Grand prize is a 1996 Nissan Pathfinder. Tickets are available from American Falls Intermediate School students at a $1 donation per ticket.
