ISU head to speak at luncheon
Chamber of Commerce
POCATELLO -- The Greater Pocatello Chamber of Commerce's Education Committee invites the public to attend a lunch with guest speaker Dr. Arthur C. Vailas, president of ISU, to learn more about the Dual Credit Program. The lunch is set Wednesday at noon in the Red Lion Hotel. The cost of lunch is $25 per person and reservations can be made by calling the Greater Pocatello Chamber of Commerce at 233-1525, and asking for Matt Hunter.
The Dual Credit Program is a collaborative partnership between Idaho's higher education institutions and high schools to provide college courses for high school students. The high school instructors partner with college/university academic departments to deliver college-level courses.
This program provides an opportunity for high school students to receive both high school and college credits for pre-approved courses. Students receive a letter grade based on work completed during the duration of the class that will be reflected on a college transcript.
Credits are transferable to all Idaho colleges/universities, and most other institutions outside the state. For the 2007-2008 school year, about 300 students at Pocatello, Highland, and Century high schools have taken classes that are eligible for dual enrollment credits.
Through the Education Committee's hard work and through donations from the community, the panel was able to award full- or partial scholarships to 47 students in the fall 2008 semester. The chamber invites residents to hear how they can help students take further advantage of the Dual Credit Program. For more information, or to donate to the scholarship fund, contact Matt Hunter, executive director of the Greater Pocatello Chamber of Commerce, at 233-1525.
