Man arraigned in 2003 slayings
CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) -- Five years after a Nampa couple was found slain, a man has been charged with their deaths.
Pete Roberts, 44, was charged in 4th District Court on Friday with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree kidnapping in the slayings of Bob and Idella Young. The elderly couple was found bound and stabbed to death in their home on Dec. 29, 2003. Investigators determined they were killed on Christmas or the following day. Nampa police found DNA evidence that they believed belonged to the killer in the Young home, but say they were unable to match it to a suspect until now. Friday's hearing gave no hint of what prosecutors think is a motive or connection between the Youngs and their killer.
Roberts is being held in the Canyon County jail without bail. Nampa police assigned more than 20 people to the case in the days that followed the discovery of the couple's bodies and eventually had the FBI create a profile of the killer. Within two years, more than 100 potential suspects had been ruled out by DNA, polygraph tests and solid alibis.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 20. Article RatingReader CommentsSubmit a CommentCommenting RulesWe encourage your feedback and dialog. All comments are subject to deletion by our Web staff.
