AF Soccer takes second
Payette 5, American Falls 1
CALDWELL -- The American Falls boys' soccer team couldn't close out its magical season with a win in the 3A state title game Saturday in Caldwell. Payette downed the Beavers 5-1, and American Falls had to settle for the second-place trophy. Coach Scott Christensen said that wasn't all bad, though. After concluding a 15-4-1 season, the Beavers matched their best state finish in program history and played hard all the way to the end.
"We had a great season, and we fought as hard as we could," he said. "But after three games in three games days, we were just worn down." Still, American Falls was tied with Payette with just 30 minutes remaining in the game.
Shortly into the second half, Sam Sanchez took a touch pass from Scott Anderson and squeezed a shot by Payette's goalkeeper. "He outran the defense and faked out the goalie," Christensen said. "We were able to fight back with that goal, but that was about as far as we could go, because they poured it on after that."
Payette ended the game with four straight goals to win going away. Article RatingReader CommentsSubmit a CommentCommenting RulesWe encourage your feedback and dialog. All comments are subject to deletion by our Web staff.
