Gallagher's family speaks out

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- The family of Flo Gallagher, wife of former Idaho State University Interim President Michael Gallagher, issued a statement Wednesday expressing gratitude for the respect shown to them since she was killed Saturday by a gunman. "We want to focus on Flo's life contributions and not on the circumstances surrounding her shocking and untimely death," Mike and Lauren Gallagher said in a press release Wednesday. Lauren is the daughter of Flo and Mike Gallagher. "The time for her family to talk about this incident may come in days or even weeks, but for now, we want to make sure the focus stays on Flo. She was a spectacular wife, mother, best friend and our never-ending source of humor and happiness."
A memorial service for Flo Gallagher is scheduled Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Robinson Theater of the Moss Performing Arts Center, located at Mesa State College. The Gallaghers were planning to leave for a vacation on Oct. 11 with their friends, Terry and Linda Fine. The Gallaghers were picking up the Fines at their Grand Junction home when a lone gunman, Stefan Alexander Martin-Urban, opened fire on them.
Terry and Linda Fine and Floyce Gallagher were shot in the Fines' driveway, and a neighbor who attempted to come to their aid was also shot. Floyce Gallagher, 60, died from her injuries at St. Mary's Hospital hours later. Terry Fine also died, and Linda was listed in good condition last Sunday. Martin-Urban, 22, turned the 9 mm handgun on himself after he crashed his Honda CRV during a pursuit with police. He died from his injuries Sunday before investigators could question him.
Flags at ISU will be lowered Saturday as a show of respect to the Gallaghers. By Debbie Bryce
