Driver hit twice at same spot
POCATELLO -- A two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Pole Line and Eldredge roads early Thursday afternoon resulted in one vehicle rolling onto its side and a resolution by its driver.
"I hate this intersection," said Kris Payne. "I'm never taking it again. I'm gonna find a different route to work." Payne's sentiment was understandable. Thursday's accident was the second time in six weeks her 1983 Blazer has been broadsided by another driver running the red light at that intersection. Payne had to crawl out the back of her vehicle Thursday. Payne's husband, Mike, sighed after surveying the damage to the vehicle. He just finished repairs on the last accident to the vehicle. The Blazer had been deemed totaled by their insurance company. Mike bought the vehicle back and repaired it. This time he's not as optimistic.
"There's not much I can do with it now," he said as the vehicle was hauled away on a flatbed truck. The Paynes planned to drive to Portneuf Medical Center after the investigation wrapped up to have Kris' back and shoulder looked at.
Melissa England, the driver of the 1995 Ford Ranger, was cited for running a red light. England's air bag deployed during the accident. Her 2-month-old son was unharmed in the accident and was sleeping soundly in his infant car seat while the investigation was under way. England was helped to a friend's vehicle with an injury to her ankle. Marlene Hiebe, who works at Atlas Mechanical on the southwest corner of the intersection, said accidents are common there.
"I bet there's an accident like this every two to three months," she said. By John Bulger
