Ponciano wins Big Sky award
OGDEN, Utah -- Idaho State kick returner JD Ponciano was named the Big Sky Special Teams Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Ponciano, a 5-foot-10 senior from Vancouver, Wash., who is recovering from a sports hernia, returned four kicks for a total of 144 yards in Idaho State's 42-27 loss at Idaho on Saturday. Ponciano, whose career average of 29.5 yards per return ranks second in Bengals history, broke off returns of 60 and 44 yards.

Bengals receiver Eddie Thompson was nominated for the Offensive Player of the Week honors after he caught 17 passes for 120 yards. Montana running back Andrew Schmidt won the award. Making his first career start at the position, Schmidt carried the ball 26 times for 145 yards in Montana's road win against No. 11 Cal Poly on Saturday. The senior rushed for 127 yards in the second half to help the Grizzlies rally from a halftime deficit.
