Former Bengals cut
Saturday was unkind to former Idaho State football players trying to make their way in the NFL.
The New England Patriots released quarterback Matt Gutierrez while the Cincinnati Bengals cut wide receiver Clyde Logan, as both teams had to trim their rosters to a league-mandated 53 players. Gutierrez's release comes as the bigger surprise, as he spent the entire 2007 season with the Patriots and outplayed fellow quarterback Matt Cassel in the preseason. The former Idaho State signal caller was 29-for-45 for 362 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in exhibition action.
Cassel made the team despite his poor preseason. The seventh-round draft choice out of Southern California in 2005 completed 19 of 34 passes for 165 yards, no touchdowns and one interception. He threw only 33 passes in four years of college and 39 in three with the Patriots. Article RatingReader CommentsSubmit a CommentCommenting RulesWe encourage your feedback and dialog.
