Indoor arena will not be completed for fair
POCATELLO -- The new $500,000 indoor arena at the Bannock County Fairgrounds will be completed next week, just days after the local fair wraps up.
Fairgrounds Manager Rick Fuhriman said a construction delay held up the completion of the 160-by-300 foot building which sits just west of the parking area. The arena is large enough to accommodate bucking and roping chutes and spectator seating. The delay will not affect any of the North Bannock County Fair's scheduled activities, which will begin on Wednesday. The fair opened its doors Monday for exhibitors. Arts and crafts registration closed Monday evening, but exhibitors may enter baked goods, floral arrangements and produce for judging between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. today, Superintendent Marylan Whitaker said.
"We feel like we're growing," Whitaker said regarding the number of individual exhibits. "I'm sure we've had around 1,000 (last year)." Judging of nonperishable entries will begin at 9 a.m. today. Food preservation, baking, cut flowers and gardening judging will commence at 3:30 p.m.
The 4-H working ranch single-cow sorting and roping will start at 6 p.m. in the main arena. Article RatingReader CommentsSubmit a CommentCommenting RulesWe encourage your feedback and dialog. All comments are subject to deletion by our Web staff.
