Idaho Osprey have new home in South Dakota
YANKTON, S.D. (AP) -- Twenty young osprey have been relocated from Idaho to Yankton as part of a project to reintroduce the bird to the region.

Osprey are smaller than bald eagles, but have a wingspan up to 6 feet. At one time they had vanished from South Dakota.

Now, the state Game, Fish and Parks Department is part of a project to rebuild their population.
The osprey are too young to fly. That's important because the place they learn to fly is imprinted in their brains.

They'll soon be able to fly and will go south for winter and stay there for two years. When they're mature adults it's hoped they'll return to the Yankton area and raise their young.
