SENIOR GAMES
n The Southeast Idaho Senior Games will start Aug. 9 and run through Aug. 16. People 50 or older are eligible. For more information, visit www.seidahoseniorgames.org or call (208) 233-2034. The softball tournament will begin August 15 and 16 at Tydeman Field. Tournament format will be round robin. For more information, call 233-2034. The triathlon (5K run, 20K bike and 500 yard swim) will be held August 9 at 8 a.m. at Ross Park Aquatic Complex. Cycling events will be held August 12 to 16. The staging area for the 20K Tandem Road Races will be the Sinclair station in Arimo off Old Highway 91 at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, August 15, and the 40K and 40K Tandem Road Races at 9 a.m. on Sautrday, August 16.Other events include: Criterium (Holt Arena parking lot at 6 p.m. on tuesday, August 12), Hill Climb (Scout Mountain at 6:30 p.m. on August 13), 5K (8 a.m. on Saturday, August 16), and 10K and Tandem 10K Tim Trials at Arimo's Sinclair Station (8 a.m. on Friday, August 15). BASKETBALL n The first-ever Boise Area Metro (BAM) Jam will take place on August 8-9 on the streets of downtown Boise. The Jam is open to boys and girls entering third grade and above to adults. Teams will be placed into brackets according to age, gender and competition level. Participants can register at www.bamjamboise.com. VOLLEYBALL n The VBcamps Elite Academy will host a camp August 4-6 in Pocatello for athletes of all skill levels. Cost is $169, which includes training, a drawstring backpack and a water bottle. n There will be a District 5 Volleyball officials state rules clinic at Century for all interest volleyball officials on Thursday, August 7. Registration begins at 6 p.m. and the clinic starts at 7 p.m. Please contact Julie Burke at 238-7646 or 406-1191 for more information. n The Pocatello Parks and Recreation Department Adult Women's league will begin play in September. Players must be at least 16 years old. Team rosters may be picked up starting July 28 at the office at 144 Wilson. Registration is also available online at http://activityreg.com/clientmainpage.asp?cid=POKYPR. Team rosters must be turned in to the office on or before August 20. Player fees are $30 per player. Any player paying after August 22 will have to pay a late fee of $10. Matches will be played Monday through Thursday nights beginning around Sept. 3 and should finish in late October.
CROSS COUNTRY n Highland High School coaches are offering open practices for any eighth-grader or high school student interested in cross country. They will be held Monday through Friday starting June 16 at Alameda Middle School. They will run from 8 to 10 a.m. Participants need to bring a water bottle, a sports watch and running shoes. n The Century boys' and girls' corss country teams will be running the second annual Century to Kinport Peak relay race starting at 8 a.m. on August 8, starting at Century High School. The relay is to raise money for the cross country team. In addition to the current cross country team, there will be a team made up of cross country alumni. n Registration for the Preston Golf and Country Club's junior golf program is now open. The league runs through the summer and is held on Wednesday mornings. n Gate City Youth Soccer League coaches will host free summer street soccer pickup games through June and July, every Tuesday and Thursday at the NOP Fields. Games start at 7 p.m. n Century High coaches are hosting a camp for fifth- through 12th-graders from 6 to 8 p.m. July 28-31 at Century High. Cost is $50. Call Jamshid Roomiany at 232-8741 for information.
n Fall registration for the Gate City Youth Soccer League is now open. Teams will be formed for children ages 5 to 14. Cost ranges from $40-70. Deadline for the U11-U14 competitive teams is July 16 with a $20 late fee assessed. August 1 is the deadline for the U5-U12 recreational teams. Call the GCYSL at 233-8883 for information, or stop by its office at 326 W. Clark during office hours: between 2 and 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Thursday; 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday. n Pocatello Camp Fire is now accepting registrations for fall soccer. Last day to register is August 1. Cost is $44. Age groups: Preschool (3-4 years old), kindergarten, 2nd- and 3rd-grade, 4th- and 5th-grade. Season runs from Sept. 6 to Oct. 25. All games played on Saturdays.

Highland is also hosting conditioning at the Bannock Fairgrounds starting Monday, July 14 through Thursday, July 31 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. n Pocatello High School tryouts begin on August 11. Season runs from Sept. 6 to Oct. 25. All games played on Saturdays. FOOTBALL n The Pocatello football team is holding its mandatory fall football practice on August 11 from 6 to 9 p.m. at Raymond Park. For any questions, call Tom Harrison at 251-9603. n The Pocatello Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration from 3rd- and 4th-grade boys and girls (as of the fall 2008 school year) for kid's flag football. Register online at http://activityreg.com/clientmainpage.asp?cid=POKYPR. Office registration begins July 28 and registration fees are $28 per player. Players will be assigned to teams by schools and geographical areas of the city if possible. The last day of registration is August 22, and a $5 late fee will be assessed beginning August 25. Team practices start August 25, and the season is scheduled to begin Sept. 9. Games are played Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning at 5:40 p.m. at Hawthorne Park football fields. n The Southeast Idaho Youth Football League is still accepting registration forms for the upcoming 2008 season for 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade teams. Forms are available at Idaho Sporting Goods, Barrie's Sports and Sports Authority in Pocatello, Rockland Pharmacy in American Falls, City Hall in Soda Springs and Aberdeen, 20th Century Ford and Rupe's Burgers in Blackfoot, All American Market in Snake River and the Welcome Mart in Preston. It is open to all interested in the event, including those with no experience competing in them. The organization hopes to host group training events, clinics, races and other social happenings.
