County property tax appeals wrap up
POCATELLO — During the past two weeks, Bannock County commissioners heard from 75 county residents who appealed their property tax assessments.
Administrative Assistant Rhonda Miller said the number of appeals was up this year. “We usually have a rush of appeals, but in the seven years since I’ve been here, this is the most we’ve had,” Miller said. The hearings, which gave property owners the opportunity to contest their annual assessment, wrapped up on Monday.
Ann Kinney, of the Bannock County Assessor’s Office, said an internal audit would be conducted to ensure the accuracy of this year’s assessments and the aggregate county property value increase should be released next week. Kinney said that property owners who appealed will receive notice from the County Commission about their case and also their options if they’re not satisfied with the county’s decision.
Residents can appeal the county’s decision to the Idaho State Board of Tax Appeals. A member from the three-person board will travel to Bannock County to hear appeals regarding property tax appraisals. Kinney said commercial property values in Bannock County were extremely low and will most likely show the largest increase.
While the number of residents who appealed their tax assessment increased, the number of appeals in Bannock County was still lower than other Idaho counties. In Ada County, 2,900 residents appealed their property tax assessments.
Kootenai County in Northern Idaho saw 300 appeals filed. Article RatingReader CommentsSubmit a CommentCommenting RulesWe encourage your feedback and dialog. All comments are subject to deletion by our Web staff.
