Wildfire training planned
Wildfire Training Drill in Southeast Pocatello Area

POCATELLO, ID-On June 26, 27 and 28, fire personnel and equipment from the Fire Departments of Pocatello, Inkom, Pocatello Valley, Fort Hall, Chubbuck, Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service will be simulating a wildfire in the southeast Pocatello area, near the China Peak wildland urban interface.

Each day one drill will be conducted, starting at approximately 10 AM and ending at approximately 2 PM. The cooperating agencies will commence the training exercise at the corner of Swisher Road, progressing northwest toward Barton Road and Nighthawk Way.
Engine crews will be practicing wildfire suppression strategies and structure protection tactics primarily on Barton Road and Nighthawk Way.

In an effort to capitalize on the simulation, fire officials encourage public involvement, though participation is not required. Firefighters may be accessing the training area through private property. However, emergency vehicles will stay on existing roads and two-tracks, and any other access will be by foot, for the purpose of assembling and dissembling hoselays. If private property is involved for these purposes, extreme caution will be taken to preclude any damage.
You can do your part to get ready for wildfire season 2008 by contacting Three Rivers RC&D for a free home evaluation. Please call (208) 237-4628, extension 105, to have your property evaluated.

For questions and/or concerns regarding this planned activity, or if you would like to specifically exclude your property from this event, please contact Joel Gosswiller, 709-2403 or David Gates, 234-6204 or 681-9616.
