Welsh Festival set in Malad
MALAD - Since 2005 the Malad Welsh Festival has brought the heritage and tradition of the city's past to life for a weekend.
This year the annual festival will be held on June 27 and 28. Events will begin at 9 a.m. on Friday with a presentation by Dr. Ronald Dennis entitled, ''From the Green Hills of Wales to the Rocky Mountains - Why?'' Other events will include a Welsh film festival, a folk dance festival, traditional welsh music and food as well as the first annual Welsh Dragon Triathlon. It consists of a swim, bike trek and run, and will be held on Saturday, June 28, at 8 a.m. The Malad Valley was settled by Welsh pioneers in the 1860s. According to the festival's Web site, ''Malad has the largest per capita concentration of Welsh ancestry outside the country of Wales itself.''
This year's festival chairman is Mike Williams. Jean Thomas also has had a big part in setting up this year's event. ''She is the driving force behind this whole thing,'' said Marilyn Jones, the publicity chairman for the festival.
Here are some of the events scheduled for the two day festival. For a complete list, log on to the festival's Web site at www.welshfestival.com. Article RatingReader CommentsSubmit a CommentCommenting RulesWe encourage your feedback and dialog. All comments are subject to deletion by our Web staff.
