Suspect's transfer delayed
POCATELLO - The suspect in an armed robbery and shooting of a local jeweler last year remains in custody in Florida and may not arrive in Pocatello for several weeks, according to Pocatello Police Sgt. Steve Findley.
Thomas Quest III, who was taken into custody in Santa Domingo in early May, is in Miami under U.S. Marshal custody. He is charged with robbery, aggravated battery and kidnapping. Quest allegedly entered Imperial Crown Jewelers on Nov. 30, pistol whipped the store owner and shot him in the leg before restraining him with zip-tie handcuffs. Quest then allegedly stole between $1.5 million and $2 million worth of diamonds and precious stones. The store owner closed the Jefferson Avenue business after the robbery. ''He's probably three to four weeks from being transported back to Pocatello by the federal authorities,'' Findley said. ''It basically comes down to the gas crunch has hit everybody and they're consolidating trips, so when they get enough prisoners to come back out here with him, that's when he'll end up here.''
