Suite 212 Flute Choir show
SUITE 212 FLUTE CHOIR TO PRESENT CONCERT
Suite 212, a Pocatello based flute choir, will present a chamber concert on Tuesday, May 27 at 7:30 PM in the First United Methodist Church, 15th and Clark. The concert is free and open to the public. Suite 212 is comprised of nine flutists who share the love of playing flute choir and ensemble music. The group has been playing together for eight years and have performed over 40 concerts including two at National Flute Conventions in Las Vegas and Albuquerque. The choir performs compositions that use all the flute family: piccolo, C flutes, Alto and Bass flutes. The program on May 27 will begin with several members playing solos, duets, and trios. Of special interest with be two trios performed on alto flutes. The second half of the program will begin with the "Symphony No. 1" by the English composer Boyce transcribed by Bruce Behnke. The three movement work features the C Flutes, 2 altos and bass flute. Anton Andre's "Trio for Multiples of Three Flute, Op. 27" will feature all the performers on C flutes.
Concluding the program is "The Secret Language of Snow" written by Kirk Vogel of Greeley, Colorado. The composition was inspired by Terry Tempest William's book by the same name. It musically depicts three of the words for snow used by the Inuit of the Kobuk Valley in northwest Alaska. The first movement, Annui, means falling snow. Api, the second movement, is the Inuit word for fresh snow on the ground. The third movement, Siqoq, describes snow that swirls above ridgetops. Area flutists who are interested in performing with Suite 212 should contact Patricia George, georgeflute@hotmail.com. Rehearsals for the fall concert series will begin in late August.
