Taking it to the limit
POCATELLO - Rod Jenks and his classmates watched intently as the pressure gauge neared the optimum level of 1,000 pounds.

As the needle inched closer to the mark, the faint sound of crackling preceded a loud snap. The model balsa wood bridge he designed and built for a Computer Assisted Design Program at Idaho State University's College of Technology had reached its limit of 984 pounds.

The 43rd Annual Carl Burstedt Memorial Bridge Design Competition was Friday morning. In all, 12 students participated in the contest, which is the capstone project for the CAD program.
