Leading turkey group
CHUBBUCK - Ed Bullock spends about 40 hours per week working as president of the Southeast Idaho Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation.

He, like most of the other people who run the federation, doesn't get paid. But for Bullock, that's just fine.

''It's all volunteer,'' he said. ''Even our CEO doesn't get paid. He gets paid the same way I do - satisfaction. That's how we're able to put a lot of the money we raise put back into the ground.''
That means their money goes back into the community to support the very programs Bullock loves: trapping and transplanting turkeys, wildlife conservation, planting trees and giving as many people as possible the opportunity to experience the outdoors.

For example, Bullock says that last year they were able to take a retired Marine in a wheelchair on a turkey hunt. For Bullock, such activities are ''an opportunity to give something back.''
In fact, being the head of the local turkey federation seems to be the ideal job for this outdoors enthusiast.

As Bullock puts it, ''helping someone get out and enjoy the outdoors is about as gratifying as it gets.''
One of his major upcoming projects is to plant 600 trees and shrubs in Idaho. He says anyone who wants to help is welcome to join him.

Let the questions begin:
ISJ: If you could return to any age, what age would you be and why?

Bullock: Probably about 40, because you've learned a few of life's lessons.
ISJ: When (and if) you arrive at the gates of Heaven, what would you like to

hear God say to you?
Bullock: Well, you made it after all.

ISJ: If you could choose a new career, what would it be?
Bullock: I like the one I've got - I'm retired.

ISJ: Any regrets?
Bullock: I haven't been able to spend more time with my kids and grandchildren.

ISJ: Who are your top three dream dinner partners?

Bullock: Norman Schwarzkopf, my dad, Gen. Joe Foss.

ISJ: If you won the lottery, how would you spend the money?

Bullock: I would make sure my grandkids got to college, I would plant a million oak trees in Idaho and then I'd take a safari to Africa.

ISJ: What was your favorite vacation?

Bullock: A fishing trip to Lake Powell in southern Utah/northern Arizona.

ISJ: What was the best day of your life?

Bullock:There were three of them. The days my three children were born.

ISJ: What's under your bed?

Bullock: A travel bag and gun cases.

ISJ: When was the last time you cried?

Bullock: The day my dad died.
