Travelocity notes area sites
POCATELLO - Local residents don't have to go far to find some of the best sites in Idaho.
A Travelocity.com article has named Mystique Dinner Theater in Chubbuck and Buddy's Italian Restaurant in Pocatello as two spots on their Local Secrets, Big Finds feature for Idaho. The picks, which claim to be editor-approved, also include B.J's Bayou - Roberts in Idaho Falls, Festival at Sandpoint in Sandpoint and Heise Hot Springs in Ririe. Tavelocity.com staff compile the list of favorite stops in America and Canada based on recommendations from frequent visitors or locals. According to an article by Amy Ziff, editor-at-large, posted on the Web site, more than 10,000 entries were submitted and 295 places were chosen for the their edition of Local Secrets, Big Finds. Each location is described using quotes from the nominator. Shawn Ruth, box office manager for Mystique, said the theater received a letter from Travelocity.com in July saying it would be highlighted on the Web site.
Travelers said the theater, owned by Terry Commons, makes tourists ''shake your head in wonderment as to how this amazing place landed in Chubbuck,'' the Web site says. They also describe the theater's ''old Excalibur castle'' and ''first class entertainment.'' ''That's just cool for us to be highlighted,'' Ruth said. ''We love our facility and we love what we do. Hopefully, we can share that with more people that travel here.''
Ruth wasn't sure if the theater has attracted anyone specifically because of the article, but she said Travelocity.com gave the facility a sticker and certificate to display the honor. Steve Piper's Buddy's restaurant was also recognized for its ''homemade ravioli, hearty Italian-style dinner platters, stuffed sandwiches and pizza'' as well as the well-known Buddy's salad dressing. The nominator also recommends the Chick's Special and a mint for the well-worth it after-breath.
The extra advertising only lasts for a year and is only honored once, Ruth said. By Heather Mangan
