Lava hikes lodging tax

LAVA HOT SPRINGS - A 1 percent tax increase on lodging in the tiny resort town of Lava Hot Springs went into effect Tuesday.

Voters approved the increase during the city's Nov. 6 elections.
City Clerk Canda Dimick said a detailed study conducted by local merchant, Evelee Rush, indicated that tax in Lava Hot Springs was lower than similar resorts in Idaho.

The tax increase means tourists will now pay 3 percent sales tax for rooms and RV spaces with occupancy less than 30 days.
The city's tax for liquor by the drink and retail sales will remain at 2 percent, Dimick said.
