Isley named health care hero
BOISE - The Idaho Business Review honored Bill Isley, owner of Tuscany builders in Pocatello, for his community outreach efforts in helping Bright Tomorrows build a Child Advocacy Center. Isley was honored at the state-wide 2007 Health Care Heroes reception Thursday, Sept. 20, at the DoubleTree Riverside in Boise.
Isley pledged $50,000 towards construction, then took the project one step further by donating his company's time and talents in constructing the center, and helped convince subcontractors and suppliers to donate labor and materials. The center was completed in four months and turned over to Bright Tomorrows, August 2007, debt-free. ''The new center would not have been possible without Bill's determination and involvement,'' said Kathy Downes, Executive Director of Bright Tomorrows. ''His commitment to see a brighter future and better service for the children of our community made this project a reality.'' Bright Tomorrows is a child advocacy center dedicated to reducing the trauma of childhood sexual abuse. The center has provided services to child victims of abuse and their family members for more than 20 years in Southeastern Idaho.
Nominations for the 2007 Health Care Heroes were received from every region in the state, and were then turned over to a panel of judges that included health care professionals. Each judge individually ranked the nominations and the top three rankings in each category were awarded the Health Care Hero award. The 2007 winners, by category, were:
-Advancements: Ada County Paramedics; MyRegence.com; and St. Alphonsus West Valley Heath Care Alliance. -Community Outreach: Delta Dental Community Outreach Program; Bill Isley; and Mercy Medical Center.
-Emergency, Fire and Rescue: John Blake; Dominick Merrell; and Karen Powers (deceased). -Health Care Professional: Honey Goodman; Debbie Lenington; and Colleen ''Casey'' Meza.
-Nurse: Vicki Allen; Sherry Iverson; and Carol Trana. -Physician: Larry Dewey; John Hanks; and Brenda Williams.
-Volunteer: Joan and Don Fothergill; Maurice Masar; and Janie Nirk. -Educator: Jim Girvan, Boise State University; Pamela Powell, Idaho State University; and Catherine Prinzig, Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center.
