Brothers face stage debut
POCATELLO — Like most parents with children in a play, Jessica Buckles just hopes 5-year-old Quinn and Grant, 6, do everything right when they step onto the Frazier Hall stage Friday night.
Even though the Cre-Act School’s presentation of “The Princess and the Pea” will be Quinn and Grant’s first acting experience, with all the practice the boys have had since February, Buckles has confidence in their thespian abilities. “Grant gets to be a knight so he’s excited,” Buckles said. “He’s obsessed with medieval history.” Having burgeoning actors isn’t the only thing new for the family. Jessica, her husband, Jay, and their three sons moved to Pocatello from Laramie, Wyo. last July.
Buckles, a stay-at-home mom, said the family enjoys the Gate City’s friendly atmosphere and the milder weather, which includes less wind and warmer temperatures than they experienced in Wyoming. She’s also thrilled about the boy’s school.
“Cre-Act is really family oriented,” Buckles said. “The teachers have a lot of love and support for the kids.” Grant, a kindergartner, said his favorite scene in the play is one in which he gets to make the audience laugh. He said while he is nervous about his acting debut, he is looking forward to it.
“The first part we’re on a quest,” Grant said. “It’s really funny. We start yelling at each other and falling down and stuff like that.” Quinn is also enthusiastic. But Buckles said he isn’t so sure about having to wear makeup for his role as a royal sign holder.
“He had mascara all over his face and was not very happy with it,” Buckles said of a recent dress rehearsal. “We need to work on the makeup.” Article RatingReader CommentsSubmit a CommentCommenting RulesWe encourage your feedback and dialog. All comments are subject to deletion by our Web staff.
