Girl died in car accident
BLACKFOOT — An 8-year-old girl died at Bingham Memorial Hospital Monday after she was ejected from the vehicle she was a passenger in after it was struck by another car, Bingham County Sheriff’s office said.
Jasmine Alvarez, 8, a second-grader at Moreland Elementary, was riding in 1991 Cadillac driven by a 16-year-old Snake River High School student. When the Cadillac pulled onto State Highway 39 from 900 West, it was struck in the passenger door by a 2004 Ford pickup driven by another Snake River student. All three were taken to Bingham Memorial Hospital where Alvarez died of her injuries while preparations were being made to fly her to another hospital. The driver of the Ford was treated and released while the driver of the Cadillac was admitted to the hospital. The extent of his injuries were not known at deadline.
Bingham County Sheriff’s Office said the accident is being investigated jointly with Idaho State Police and no charges were not filed as of Monday night. By Journal Staff
