Gun shots fired in Weston
WESTON — A Weston man was charged with felony aggravated assault here after he allegedly fired a handgun into the floor near his wife’s feet on Friday.
Police said Larry McLain, 42, fired two shots from a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol into floor during an argument with his wife at their residence. Franklin County Sheriff Don Beckstead said police first became aware of the situation after an unattended crashed truck was found along the West Side Highway. Police connected the vehicle with Carol McLain. When she was contacted later in the day at the residence, police said she showed them the shell casings and told them about the gun shots.
Police said McLain allegedly crashed the truck after leaving the scene where the shots were fired. She was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and alcohol related inattentive driving.
The incident comes on the heels of a domestic dispute that escalated into a murder suicide in Preston two weeks ago. That incident ended in tragedy when Steve Donald shot and killed his wife Annette Donald, then himself. Beckstead said having two violent domestic disturbances so close together is very unusual from the rural county.
“It’s definitely unusual to have that many with violence,” Beckstead said. “It’s something we are watching to see if it’s a (trend.)” Larry McLain remains in Franklin County jail on $75,000 bond.
